Saskatoon Crane Operator Classes - Crane operator training is for operators and supervisors of overhead lifting machinery. The course is suitable for both new and current operators. Course content includes relevant provincial, state and federal safety regulations. The first part of training includes complete in-class lessons and exam. Following that is a customized hands-on session together with practical lessons and assessment.

The content of the course applies to all types and categories of overhead lifting crane devices. The instruction would specifically focus on all aspects of crane operation which could be performed at the trainee's workplace. Upon finishing the course, trainees would know how to operate specific overhead lifting machines, related parts and attachments efficiently and safely.

The purpose of the operator course is to identify any potentially dangerous habits which an operator can develop when operating an overhead crane. The course will encompass about eight hours of classroom instruction with a couple of hours of customized, on-site, hands-on training. Participants are graded on their knowledge of training material through written tests and an evaluation of their practical knowledge. The minimum acceptable score is 80%.

The in-class session, the trainee would learn about causes of damages and occurrences, legislation and guidelines, internal responsibility, hazard awareness, capacity ratings/load weight calculations, design principles and basic equipment, pre-shift equipment checks, safe hoisting/operating methods, equipment applications/rigging, kinds of hardware, angles and hitches, pedestrian/operator safety, hand signals for slingers and operators, turning/flipping loads safely.

The practical training and evaluation part of the course must be pre-scheduled. This customized portion of the training would be held at the trainees' facility. The duration of this practical training component is an hour or two. The instructor will train two operators at a time about skills such as planning the lift, right rigging practices and safe operation.

After finishing both the in-class instruction and the practical training and evaluation, the trainee will be tested via an exam. Each participant will be required to sign the safety rules. Individual wallet certificates would be given to trainees who are successful. The company would be given a framed wall certificate.
